Freedom and dignity for all.

YWCA Greater Cincinnati has been a voice for change for women and families in Ohio since our founding in 1868. Our history inspires the work we do each day to mobilize diverse groups of women leaders to identify community problems, advocate and shape public policy for solutions, and implement direct services and programs to create more equitable neighborhoods in our region.

Mission Forward, YWCA’s campaign to promote freedom and dignity for all, has three goals.

  1. Renovate new domestic violence shelter.

  2. Expand racial justice and gender equity advocacy.

  3. Safeguard our future.

Mission Forward will raise $11,500,000 and is a three-year campaign that began in 2023. YWCA continues to serve Hamilton, Brown, Clermont, and Adams counties with our five lines of service: Emergency domestic violence shelter programs, housing and supportive services for domestic violence survivors, racial justice and advocacy programs, violence prevention and intervention programs, and empowerment and economic advancement programs.

Renovate new domestic violence shelter: YWCA operates the only domestic violence shelters in our region - one in Hamilton County (Avondale) and one in Clermont County (Batavia). We are proudly the 1st domestic violence shelter in the state of Ohio in 1978 and the 7th domestic violence shelter operating in the USA.

In our new trauma-informed shelter in Avondale, families will feel secure, with space to heal and stop the cycle of violence in their homes. Our shelter expansion will include:

  • 21 private and ADA-compliant units

  • Multi-purpose space for community partners

  • State-of-the-art security and fire systems

  • Indoor recreation area and teen lounge

  • Outdoor play area for children

  • Trauma-informed counseling spaces

  • Technology equipped huddle rooms

  • On-site supportive services

  • Space for pets so they can escape abuse with their families

Expand racial justice and gender equity advocacy: YWCA is the only anchor institution in Southwest Ohio with the bold mission to eliminate racism and empower women – an explicit, intersectional mission focused on racial and gender justice. “Eliminating Racism” was added to the YWCA mission statement in 1970.  In light of recent attacks on equity efforts across the country, it is critical for YWCA to remain a strong advocate for racial and gender justice. Funds raised in the Mission Forward campaign will:

    • Create YWCA’s Justice and Training Institute to provide education to local policy and systems leaders.

    • End the cycle of violence by strengthening alliances with survivors and expanding policy advocacy efforts.

    • Transform inequitable systems by advocating for local policies that advance racial justice, women’s economic and social power.

Safeguard our future: Dollars from the campaign will be put into reserves specifically for one year of operating costs for the Hamilton County domestic violence shelter.  This investment will be set aside to ensure that there is a year of cash on hand for essential expenses and agency sustainability.
